Does It Matter Which Toothpaste You Choose?

Posted .

When you last went to the store to buy toothpaste, were you amazed at how many options there were? One brands variations alone could get you confused about which one might be better for your smile. If this seems familiar, we’d like to help make this process a little easier for you.

Unless you have been told otherwise by our dentist, Dr. Mitchell Olson, you should always select a toothpaste with fluoride in it that is a flavor you’ll like. Fluoride can help strengthen your tooth’s enamel and help it prevent cavities.

Many toothpastes might promise to do different deeds. Some can offer help with tartar control while others may help with sensitive teeth. While others might proclaim that they can help you get fresher breath or whiter teeth. If one person tried to verify the claims that every toothpaste made, it may be almost impossible.

Thankfully, you might not need to do your own testing, because an association known as the American Dental Association, or ADA, might have already done it. A manufacturer can voluntarily submit their product for testing with the ADA to prove that it is effective and safe. Once the product has passed their tests, the ADA can put its Seal of Acceptance on the packaging, which may give you some reassurance about the toothpaste.
